Masters Project: "Effect of predator models on cleaning behaviour"
The hypothesis I tested is whether the manipulated presence of fish predators (i.e, model plastic fish (Shark or coral trout), plastic object control-a pipe, or no stimulus), indirectly affects the cleaning interactions, the client community composition, and the clients' size frequency distribution. This data was collected using GoPro cameras placed on the reef, aimed at a fish model and a cleaning station. Data collection involved quantifying fish behavior using video analysis of i) underwater remote pre-recorded coral reef fish cleaning interactions, including quantifying the cleaner fish and client fish behaviours, ii) indentifying the client fish species involved, and iii) estimating clients' standard length, B) statistical analysis of data, and C) presenting and writing up of results in a scientific marine journal format. I used the software Boris to quanitfy the behaviors, which were classified into different types. This gave me the frequency of events and for some, also their duration.
