Viviana Gamboa

Position: Honours student (commenced January 2003) (completed)
Education:
Awards and Grants:
Research Interests: Behavioural ecology, neuroecology of fishes, urban ecology, wildlife management and human-wildlife interactions
Honours Project: "The neurecology of labrid fishes: The importance of vision and other senses in behaviour"
This project will investigate the neuroecology of Labrids (wrasses) and link the importance of vision and other senses with behavioural patterns. The importance of vision has been shown to reflect the central representation of visual input to the central nervous system. This research project will aim to quantitatively compare the size of the sensory brain areas and associated cranial nerves in a range of labrid fishes with different visual behaviours and feeding strategies. Thus, it will link neuroecology with behavioral sciences. Supervisors: Assoc Prof Shaun Collins and Dr Lexa Grutter.
